MLB Betting Guide

What is a Point Spread?

In every MLB game, there is always a statistical inbalance between the two teams facing off.  The Points Spread helps sportsbooks manage the inbalance and encourage bets on both sides of the matchup. The favorite, will be indicated by a minus (-) symbol. The Underdog, will be indicated by the plus (+) sign. The number that follows either symbol indicates the number of points taken away (-), or added (+), to a teams final score to equal a win in the eyes of the sportsbook.

What Are Favorites & Underdogs?

Favorite equals the team statistically most likely to win. The Underdog is the team statistically less likely to win.

What Does Over/Under (O/U) Mean?

The Over/Under (O/U) refers to the total amount of runs expected to be scored in total between both teams in an MLB game. You can either bet that the two teams combined score will go “over” or “under” the run total listed by a sportsbook.

What Is The Moneyline or a Moneyline Bet?

A moneyline bet is the simplest way for new bettors to bet on an MLB team of their choosing.  The bet is as simple as picking the team you believe will win the game.  The amount the bet will pay is indicated by a plus (+) or minus (-) symbol with a number following after. For example: If the Philadelphia Phillies are -240, against the Boston Red Sox at +190. You would have to wager $240 to win $100 in the event that the Phillies win.  For every $100 you wager on the Underdog Red Sox, you will win $190 if the Red Sox win the game.

What Is The Opener?

The Opener, or opening line, for all MLB games listed on our live odds comparison tool, indicates the initial line established when the betting markets first opened for that particular Pro Baseball game. The lines may change leading up to the game, but the opener will always be displayed as a point of reference.

What Is The Consensus?

The Consensus, or consensus line, on our MLB Live odds comparison tool, reflects the average of all of the odds currently being offered by all of our listed sportsbooks for that particular MLB game. Sportsbooks offering better odds than the consensus line would be a good sportsbook to place a bet.

What Is A Parlay?

MLB Parlays allow you to combine multiple wagers into one single betslip. A parlay bet typically has a much higher payout for less money at stake. In order for a Parlay to pay out, every side in the parlay bet slip must win for the bet to cash or payout.
