The Cactus Tour Keeps On Golfing in the Desert with Apache Creek Event.

There is a golf tournament this week and the Coronavirus can’t stop it. Women golf pros will tee it up at Apache Creek in AZ for a Cactus Tour event. The three day tournament runs from Wednesday to Friday.

Last week, former University of Arizona star, Haley Moore, won her first pro event on the Cactus Tour. She fired a final round 69 to seal the deal at Sun City Country Club.

Haley Moore has made headlines in the past for her inspiring story of overcoming bullying to become a NCAA champion at ASU. Now she is also a winner on a pro tour. However, she will not be in the field this week.

At PointsBet Sportsbook, the favorites to win at Apache Creek are Linnea Strom (+300) and Sarah Burnham (+325). Burnham won on the Cactus Tour two weeks ago, and Strom has yet to win this year.

PointsBet is currently the only sportsbook taking legal action on this event. TPN will update if more books add Cactus Tour to the board.

Covid-19 Precautions On the Cactus Tour

The Sun City event last week was conducted with social distancing precautions. None of the governors restrictions were violated as Arizona has allowed golf courses to stay open.

Carts were used with one golfer per, and a special modification was made to the cups. So that nobody would touch the flag sticks, pool noodles were cut into circles and placed inside the holes. This way the ball sits higher and you can grab it without fingers touching the cup.

Apache Creek, reportedly, will take similar precautions.

Are Golf Courses Open in Arizona?

Many critics say that golf for both the pros and public should be put to a stop in Arizona. While AZ golfers like Michael Wilbon of ESPN’S PTI believe that golf is naturally a sport of social distancing, and it should continue (with precautions) despite the pandemic. Wilbon discussed this with Jumoke Davis on the Just For Sport podcast recently.

My take? I hope that golf will go on in AZ. It’s nice to have some real golf betting action. Also, it’s a chance to learn about new tours, leagues and players like Haley Moore.
