Tennessee knocking off the Pats was the only play I got right last week and the thing they did is what no one really thought you could do against the Pats: Run the ball down their throat. Coming in it felt like the Pats would do everything they could to take away Derrick Henry and force Ryan Tannehill to beat them. Turns out Henry runs for 200 yards and the Titans defense puts the clamps on the Pats non-existent offense.
That’s impressive, but for our purposes we still need to think about the long game and the Pats are still pretty dicey even though they are in the middle of a nice stretch. Tennessee is only +71 in point differential and are ranked 12th against the run. Go ahead and try to picture how Tennessee is going to stop Baltimore’s multi-faceted running attack that can also just toss it over your head whenever they feel like it.
Baltimore is coming in almost a double-digit favorite against a team that might be heading for a let down.
The Titans victory on the road in New England was enormous. Like Minnesota, the possibility of them coming down to earth is very high. I suspect Tannehill will be a bigger part of the game plan and he’ll face a less imposing secondary than New England’s. However I don’t see him being able to win a shootout with Lamar Jackson.
Sure, Tennessee can play keep away and maybe can string together a couple of nice long drives to keep the ball out of Lamar’s hands. They’ll need touchdowns, not field goals and they have to play mistake free football. The Ravens have eight wins by two scores or more including big wins at home against New England and Houston who made the playoffs. In the end we’re talking about a team that feasts on opponents’ mistakes and can dominate the line of scrimmage with a multi-faceted offense that’s running at peak efficiency.
I hate to be the party pooper, but there are not a lot of scenarios where the Ravens don’t win this game. Sure, it could finish inside the number, but I see a let-down spot here even though it is the playoffs. Ravens roll, but consider teasing this one up to 15.5 along with the total to 53. Tennessee might be in for a long day.
