Dallas Cowboys +5.5 at New England Patriots

O/U 44

Sunday, 4:25 PM

On paper, Dallas is superior. Period.

They have more talent across the board than any roster aside from maybe Philly. Their offensive line is better than any group including Indy. They have studs at almost every position. New England is beat up at receiver, their running backs are all one-cut to the hole or being sent out into the flat, and Tom Brady sometimes takes a while to get warmed up. However, they have an incredible defense and the best coach in league history.

The problem with the Cowboys is they are terrible at making in-game adjustments.

The Clapper and company have this frustrating tendency to come in with one plan and never deviate from it. Case in point: Dak Prescott was killing it a couple weeks back against Minnesota. Yet, when the game was on the line, The Clapper went to his textbook move; handing the ball off to Zeke. It was maddening to watch. Dak is playing MVP-quality football, but Zeke, who ended up with 20 carries and only 46 yards, kept getting handoffs in crucial time with the Cowboys down four points. The defense held the Vikings scoreless in the fourth quarter and still couldn’t do it because Dallas forgot it has a passing game.

This pick has nothing to do with numbers and everything to do with the coaching matchup.

I definitely think Dallas is game, but I think Bill will be able to keep them off balance and mix things up enough on his side offensively to get ahead and stay ahead. Maybe Dallas scores early when they are on script, but as the game moves along the Pats will just wrestle Dallas to the ground and pin them because The Clapper can’t get out of his own head.
