The Wildcats have a two TD spread to cover vs the Spartans

The Northwestern Wildcats proved to the college football world that they are legit with their 17-7 upset win over the Wisconsin Badgers last Saturday night. The Wildcats were 7.5 point underdogs at kickoff and wound up beating Wisconsin by 10. In this game Northwestern forced 5 Wisconsin turnovers, including 3 interceptions by Badger QB Graham Mertz that helped lead them to victory.

With this win the Wildcats are now the #8 ranked team in country, 5-0 on the season, and firmly in control of the Big Ten West. Their three remaining opponents are three of the softest in the Big Ten and they look to be on a collision course with Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Northwestern vs Michigan State – Betting Preview

Not only do Northwestern continue to beat their opponents, but they continue to beat the spread as well. The Wildcats are 4-0-1 against the spread. By contrast, their opponent this week Michigan State is 1-3 against the spread. If it weren’t for their shocking upset win over Michigan, the Spartans would be winless on the year. The Spartan’s started the year poorly and it has only gotten worse.

They managed to score 27 points in each of their first two games which is not awful, but in their two most recent games they have scored a combined total of 7 points. In these two most recent games, MSU was blown out 49-7 at Iowa and shutout 24-0 vs Indiana. Northwestern beat Iowa in Iowa City. The fact that the spread is only 13.5 should be an insult to the Wildcats.

Northwestern vs Michigan State ATS Pick:

The only thing I can think of is that Northwestern has yet to have a week off and Michigan State will be coming into this game prepared and rested after a week off last week. That’s not nearly enough to convince me to bet on MSU. Michigan State’s QB Rocky Lombardi has thrown 7 interceptions in only 4 games.

If trends continue Northwestern is going to eat him up like they did with Mertz last week. The Spartans may not even get to double digits points in this game. There is no way they cover the 13.5 against the undefeated Wildcats. Give me Northwestern -13.5 at Michigan State all day.
