The odds to win the 2022 NBA MVP are constantly updating with new information. As we near towards the All-Star Game, the player’s odds have shifted. Currently, Giannis Antetokounmpo is still leading the charge among the NBA stars.

The question is, how long will he be at the top, and is he the best pick? We plan on answering that question and more as we go into more detail.

Another big question is, are there any more dark horse picks to make? Sometimes the underdogs can pull off a surprising win for the MVP award.

We have a few players that we think could pull off an upset over Giannis in the MVP race. As we go through these odds, we’ll talk about some players that could potentially win the MVP. Let’s check out the current odds first.

Giannis & Steph lead the charge, but Embiid is mixed in

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Giannis Antetokounmpo is leading the MVP odds. Currently, Antetokounmpo has +300 odds to win the MVP this year.

Per game, Giannis averages 28.9 points per game, along with 11.2 rebounds per game. Ranking fourth in points per game and seventh in rebounds per game, he’s a clear choice for the MVP.

Stephen Curry isn’t far behind in the MVP race at +310. Curry is just on the outside of the top ten when it comes to points per game. He’s fallen back in the MVP race because his shooting hasn’t been incredible this season.

Embiid comes in at the No.3 spot in the MVP race with +325 odds. Embiid has worked his way up to the No.3 spot in points per game, averaging 28.9.

Darkhorse candidates to win the 2022 NBA MVP

As always, the favorites aren’t always the best pick. This is especially true when it comes to the MVP race. Coming in behind Joel Embiid in the odds is one of our favorite darkhorse picks, Nikola Jokic.

Jokic has +375 odds to win the NBA MVP in 2022, but we think these odds will increase. Jokic is seventh in points per game (26.2) and second in rebounds per game (13.8).

Perhaps the most impressive stat for Jokic is how he ranks 9th in assists per game. As a center, Jokic averages 7.6 assists per game; that’s more than most guards and forwards.

If there’s a player that needs to make your 2022 NBA MVP radar, it’s Jokic. A player that would be considered quite a “longshot” is Kevin Durant, who’s fallen back to +3000.

Top Ten players with best odds to win the 2022 NBA MVP

Now that we’ve covered the “favorites” and the dark horses let’s reveal the top ten. Some of these players’ chances to win are incredibly unlikely, but they still make the top ten.

Players such Ja Morant and Devin Booker should probably be out of the question. However, the payouts on the players with +3500 odds would be huge.

Here is the top ten list of 2022 NBA MVP candidates:

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee) +300
  • Steph Curry (Golden State) +310
  • Joel Embiid (Philadelphia) +325
  • Nikola Jokic (Denver) +375
  • Ja Morant (Memphis) +1600
  • Kevin Durant (Brooklyn) +3000
  • LeBron James (L.A. Lakers) +3500
  • Devin Booker (Phoenix) +3500
  • DeMar DeRozan (Chicago) +4000
  • Luka Doncic (Dallas) +5000

Our favorite pick for the 2022 NBA MVP

Out of all of these players, one, in particular, stands out, Nikola Jokic. Jokic already won the MVP in 2021, but he could pull off a repeat performance.

He’s outperforming point guards and shooting guards in assists per game. He dominates the interior and is one of the leagues leading scorers. The key here is how well the Denver Nuggets will do during the season.

If they don’t perform well in the playoffs, Jokic will likely not win the 2022 NBA MVP. Our second favorite choice would be Joel Embiid at +325.

Embiid is getting red hot at the perfect time, and the 76ers are on a three-game win streak. They rank 5th in the Eastern Conference and have the best chance of stopping the best teams in the conference.

We’ll take Nikola Jokic +375 or Joel Embiid +325!
