Wells Fargo Center is a very happy place for Philly fans these days (especially if they like to bet on the Sixers). The 76ers are 12-0 at home this season. Their latest win there was also one of the sweetest. The Sixers defeated the Toronto Raptors 110-104 on the second night of a back-to-back. The win avenged an embarrassing 101-96 loss in Toronto, where Joel Embiid went scoreless. This time around, big Joel had 10 points and eight rebounds, with plenty of help from his teammates.
Tobias Harris led the way with 26 points. The Philly forward has scored at least 22 points in 4-of-5 games, and is averaging 19.2 on the season. Crucially, he’s started all 24 of Philly’s games this season (the only one of their big five starters to do so). Off the bench, Matisse Thybulle continued a strong rookie season as a reserve. The #20 draft pick had 20 points, going 5-for-8 on three-pointers. He also snagged three steals, two rebounds, and a block.
One big blemish on this game was turnovers. The Sixers committed 17, including seven by Embiid. Lucky for Philly, Toronto also committed 17 turnovers. A repeat of such poor possession protection will likely cost them a win against their next opponent.
NBA Betting Preview – Nuggets @ 76ers
Thu. 12/10 at 8:00 PM
Despite their solid 14-7 record, the Nuggets have lost 4-of 5. Tonight, they wrap up their East Coast road trip against Philly, looking to stop the bleeding. Denver’s one win in that stretch was a 129-92 blowout of New York, which helped spur ex-Knicks coach David Fizdale’s now-infamous firing. Despite that demonstration of offensive firepower, Denver has fallen to fourth place in the Western Conference. They come to Wells Fargo off a close 105-102 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. In that one, superstar center Nikola Jokic scored 24 with 11 rebounds. But his points came on 10-21 shooting — part of a poor efficiency night for the Nuggets offense, which shot just 40.4% from the field.
The Nuggets are used to inflicting such poor shooting numbers on their opposition. They lead the league in limiting opponents scoring. Teams average only 101.9 points against them. By comparison, the Sixers allow a still-respectable 104 points per game. Denver’s stout defense is crucial, because their offense is scoring just 106.5 points per game. That is 8-14 points behind their top four Western Conference rivals, and 3.7 points behind Philly’s average of 110.2.
The Nuggets defeated Philly 100-97 in Denver earlier this season. This time around, the now-reeling Nuggets face a confident Sixers squad that’s won six-of-seven, and are looking to stay unbeaten at home. Denver also just allowed 66 points in the paint to the Nets. That bodes poorly against Philly’s big interior combo of Embiid and Horford. I’m taking the Sixers to win as 4.5 point favorites tonight.
Where to bet this:
PointsBet has the best payout on the 4.5-point spread, at +100 if you bet on the Sixers. Caesars is offering a payout of -110 on that same spread. Meanwhile, Unibet PA, Unibet NJ, SugarHouse, and DraftKings Sportsbook all have payouts of -112 on a 4-point spread.
Top Player Props Picks: Nuggets vs. 76ers
As mentioned above, these two teams are very strong defensively. Despite that, Nikola Jokic is still a triple-double threat on any given night. So, tonight let’s head to Unibet’s Player Specials section, and take a -121 payout wager that the Joker has over 33.5 combined points, rebounds and assists.
Staying in that Player Specials section, but on the Sixers side, there’s a tempting bet for Tobias Harris. Unibet is offering a +100 payout that Harris surpasses 29.5 combined on those triple-double stats. After doing just that in three of his last four games, I think he does it again tonight.
