Rays and Mets Now Backed by the Biggest Money For MLB Division Winner Futures at DraftKings.

The AL East isn’t looking as competitive as it has been in recent years. Remember, the Yankees winning 100 games and still having to play a Wild Card game in 2019? Now combine last seasons performance with the offseason signing of Gerrit Cole, and you’ll see why the baseball world is buzzing about a renewal of the NYY dynasty.

However it’s a different story when it comes to the betting numbers, as we now know that sharp bettors really like the +350 odds on the surprisingly good-looking Tampa Bay Rays to win the AL East. DraftKings Sportsbook reports that 61% of the money is on Tampa Bay to win the division, but only 19% of the bets. That is a real indicator of the pros backing the Rays. As opposed to the public’s beloved Yankees, who at -305 are accounting for 28% of the money and a whopping 55% of the bet tickets at DK.

Then there is the NL East, home of defending World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals. But, bettors don’t really seem to care about what happened last year. Why? Because word around Citi Field is that the Mets are built for a 60 game season.

The DraftKings numbers indicate that there is big support for the Mets to win the NL East, with NYM currently carrying 48% of the money and 19% of the tickets at +275. That means a lot of bettors have come to the consensus that Jacob deGrom and Pete Alonso will be able to keep the Braves, Phillies and Nats in the rear view mirror for 60 games. Many experts are predicting the NL East to be one of the most competitive divisions in baseball, but it’s the Mets who are the most popular bet.
