An industry leader in sports betting and iGaming, BetMGM, announced on Monday that it will be Houston Astros’ exclusive sports betting partner.
Other competitors in the sports betting and iGaming industry have also struck similar agreements; not only with MLB but with other professional teams as well.
BetMGM Partners with the Houston Astros
Sportsbook operators have been partnering with sports franchises for several months now. The partnership between BetMGM and the Astros is the first for the operator in Texas.
BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said;
“The Houston Astros are a monumental addition to our portfolio of strategic partnerships with professional sports teams across the U.S.,… The organization’s passionate fan base will be key to the growth of BetMGM throughout the South as we look for new ways to engage fans with unique experiences that go beyond the game.”
What Does the Deal Entail Going Forward
As part of the agreement, BetMGM will have permanent signage in the outfield and rotational messaging behind home plate. Astros fans will also be able to engage with unique VIP experiences moving forward that will be exclusive to BetMGM customers.
The unique experiences include throwing out the first pitch, on-field access to batting practice throughout the season, VIP tickets to away games, and other promotions to bring more fan engagement in the future.
The Houston Astros will use the partnership to offer sports betting promotions in Louisana. Louisiana is the only major gulf state that offers sports betting between Texas and Florida. Many bettors also travel to the Bayou State to partake in the legalized sports betting action.
Jim McIngvale, better known as Mattress Mack, a Texas resident, placed two separate record-setting wagers totaling $9.5 million for the Super Bowl.
Giles Kibbe, Senior Vice President, General Counsel for the Astros, added in a statement;
“We are looking forward to our partnership with BetMGM. As we continue to strive for new ways to add to the fan experience, this partnership will provide another way for the Astros to engage with our fans.”
The sports betting operator is continuously expanding into new jurisdictions as the sports betting industry continues to grow. BetMGM, on the other hand, has taken the lead and is devoted to promoting responsible gambling among its players, which includes GameSense.
The sportsbook operates in 23 different markets throughout the industry. BetMGM is available for mobile devices and retail locations.
Will Texas Have a Sports Betting Market Soon
Sports betting most likely won’t be legalized until the year 2023, but DFS is available throughout the state. There were some preliminary talks about sports betting, but nothing has happened since then.
Texas is a market that has a lot of potential as it has the second-highest population in the United States. Texas is home to 10 million more people than New York, which is currently the sports betting capital in the industry.
A study that was done a few months ago showed that at least one million residents in Texas place wagers illegally, which adds up to around $5 billion.
