Betting site doesn’t care how good Woods has been at Muirfield.
Golf fans know that you just don’t bet against Tiger Woods, especially at the Memorial. Apparently the oddsmakers at BetMGM didn’t get the memo on TW and his incredible history at Muirfield Village. Why? Because they stand to give away hundreds of thousands in free bets to users if Tiger simply finishes in the top 50 at this year’s Memorial tournament.
It’s all part of an effort by the MGM sports betting site to sign up new players, by giving them 100 to 1 odds on a $1 bet that Tiger Woods places 50th or better at Jack’s tourney this year.
Promos like these do occasionally happen in the sports betting world, and they are always built around heavy favorites like Conor McGregor to win a fight. The books are cool with losing them, because it gets new players to sign and also there’s a rollover requirement on the free bets. However, this one seems like a straight $100 free bet giveaway when you consider Tiger and his rate of success at this event.
How good has Tiger been at the Memorial Tournament?
Since 1997, Woods has won the Memorial Tournament 5 times in 17 starts. This includes winning 3 times in a row (1999, 2000, 2001) by a HUGE 14 stroke margin. He won it again in 2012.
Then there is Tiger’s more recent history at Muirfield Village. In 2018, during his comeback from back surgery, Woods gained 6.5 strokes on the field while finishing 23rd. Then, last year he made a run at the Memorial Tournament once again, gaining 9.1 strokes on the way to a 9th place finish.
Maybe BetMGM knows Woods is in bad form? A good question to ask but very doubtful. Woods looked very sharp and in incredible shape at The Match with Manning, Brady and Phil. Also, we’ve seen Woods on social media playing a ton of golf with his son Charlie. Plus, since he arrived at Muirfield this week there have been several Instagram posts showing Tiger in practice rounds with the swing looking well oiled and ready to pounce on this stacked field.
So, should you take $1 to win $100 in free bets on Tiger to go top-50 at the Memorial Tournament? Yes. Yes you should. That is if you live in CO, IN, NJ, or WV and do not already have a BetMGM account.
